Key verse: “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” — Matthew 7:24–25
Excerpt:
Foundations matter. In a shifting world, Jesus invites us to build our whole lives on His Word. This article explores what it means to lay strong foundations through hearing and doing, prayer and obedience, so that when life’s storms come, we stand secure in Christ.
Article:
If you’ve ever watched a building go up, you’ll know the least flashy part is also the most important: the foundation. Jesus ends the Sermon on the Mount with a picture we all understand—two houses, two storms, two outcomes. The difference is not the weather but the foundation.
Jesus says the wise builder “hears these words of mine and does them.” It’s not enough to admire Jesus’ teaching; He calls us to trust and obey. That is how we build on the Rock.
1) Hear the Word (Revelation)
We begin by opening Scripture with an open heart. Read slowly. Ask, “Lord, what are You saying here?” (Psalm 119:105). On Sundays we sit under expository teaching together; during the week, we carve out unhurried time for the Bible. Hearing is the doorway to transformation.
2) Do the Word (Obedience)
Obedience is not a cold duty; it’s love in action (John 14:15). When we forgive, serve, speak truth, and choose holiness, we pour concrete into our foundations. The storms do not vanish, but we become stable people—anchored not by feelings but by Christ’s authority.
3) Pray the Word (Dependence)
We can’t obey in our own strength. Prayer is how we pour God’s grace into daily life. Pray Scripture back to God: “Lord, help me live what I’ve read today.” The Spirit empowers us to do what the Word commands (Ezekiel 36:27; Philippians 2:13).
4) Build Together (Community)
A solitary brick is not a house. God sets us in a family (Psalm 68:6). In worship, small groups, and service teams, we strengthen one another. Foundation work can be slow and hidden—but together we grow into a dwelling for God’s presence (Ephesians 2:19–22).
When storms come
Jesus never promised storm-free life; He promised storm-proof foundations. Health scares, financial pressure, unexpected change—these are real. Yet those who do His Word discover a quiet resilience: the Rock holds.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the Solid Rock. Teach us to hear and do Your Word. Strengthen our foundations with obedience and prayer. Build us into a house that stands for Your glory. Amen.
Call to action:
This week, choose one command of Jesus from Matthew 5–7 and practise it daily. Share what God is doing with a friend. Join us on Sunday (1:30–3:30 pm) as we keep building—together—on Christ our Solid Rock.
